Chancellor's Postdocs
Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2013
The Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (CPDRF) Scheme aims to support the UTS research strategy by attracting and retaining excellent researchers who will strengthen the national and international profile of UTS research. The Scheme is strongly supported by the University’s Chancellor, Professor Vicki Sara.
The CPD Fellowship Scheme aims to support UTS’ strategic intent to be a research leader in specific areas across each of the following six key Research Themes:
- Health Futures; Sustainability and Built Environment; Creative and Civil Societies; Business Innovation; Communication and Intelligent Systems; Future Services and Industries
CPD Fellowships are extremely prestigious and highly competitive. Applicants must have an outstanding track record relative to opportunity in order to be short-listed.
Overview
The CPDRF scheme enables early-career researchers to work with senior and established UTS researchers. CPD Fellows will have an opportunity for gaining international research experience as an integral part of their Fellowship, preparing them for an international career and ensuring access to high-quality research facilities.
Fellowships are offered for either three years for a research-only appointment; or four years for a combination research and teaching appointment.
Applicants will have been awarded a research doctoral degree (equivalent to an Australian PhD degree) within 5 years of the closing date for Full Applications. Research doctoral degree candidates whose thesis is under examination at the closing date, and research doctoral degree candidates who will submit their PhD thesis by 31 December 2012 may also apply. International applications are welcome.
The number of Fellowships awarded will depend on the quality of the candidates and the funding available. In 2010, UTS awarded as many as ten CPD Fellowships, which increased to twelve in 2011. In 2012, a record sixteen Fellowship applicants were successful.
Fellows will initially be appointed at Academic Salary Level A Step 4 or Level B Step 2, based on years of experience. Effective 1 January 2013, the annual salary for Level A Step 4 will be A$79,822 and for Level B Step 2 will be A$87,179. Applicants with less than 2 years experience since the award of their PhD (at the closing date for Full Applications) should expect to be offered Fellowships at Level A. Project funding of up to $45,000 is also available.
Application Process
The two-stage application process involves an Expression of Interest (EOI) stage and an invited Full Application stage.
Prior to lodging an EOI, Fellowship applicants must gain support from the Faculty/School in which they are proposing to work. Only applicants who have the agreement of a UTS Supervisor are eligible to apply and must consult closely with him/her in developing an Expression of Interest.
A valid EOI application requires an online registration, followed by the electronic submission of the EOI application document using the template provided. All applicants must fill in the online EOI Registration form which can be accessed here:
- CPDRF 2013 EOI Online Registration (Now Open)
The following links contain the documents you will need to submit an Expression of Interest under the Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Scheme 2013:
- Guidelines and Information for Applicants (PDF, 80KB)
- ‘Expression of Interest’ - Instructions and Template (Docx, 44KB)
Once eligibility has been checked and confirmed from the registration details, applicants will receive instructions for the online submission of their EOI application document (using the template provided above). Applicants are therefore encouraged to complete the registration process as soon as practical, ideally at least one week before the EOI deadline. Late submissions or application documents submitted without prior online registration and eligibility confirmation will not be accepted.
Applicants whose Expression of Interest is shortlisted will be invited to submit a Full Application. The relevant documents and instructions for this stage will subsequently be forwarded to them.
