Managing research strengths

The performance of UTS Research Strengths will be assessed annually using data related to their core membership. The assessment cycle will have the following steps;

  • the definition of research active that will be applied for the coming year is advertised
  • a census of strength members is undertaken (this need not mean that strength membership be static on the web pages).
  • a calculation of the central funding allocated to each strength is made by RIO.

The calculation of funding is based on the Research Strength Funding Guidelines and may include components for the level of research activity (publications, projects, completions), the degree to which the centre is interdisciplinary and the number of ECRs supported by the centre. Only data from enterprise databases is used in the calculation (Researchmaster, Neo, CASS).

Processes For Strength Directors and Administrators

Changing Membership

To make a change to a Centre's membership, the Director should email the Executive Manager, Planning and Operations.

Membership within the Researchmaster database will be altered and this will be reflected the next day in the web pages when the staff member will be included (or excluded) as a core or affiliate member along with their projects and publications data.

Researchers should only be core members of one strength - core membership implies that the researcher is integral to the research program of the centre. Researchers may also have two affiliate memberships used to denote collaboration with another centre.

Strength Reports

To request a report, the Director should email the Executive Manager, Planning and Operations outlining the data required.

Information relating to the Core or Affiliate members' research publications (HERD or not), projects (grants, contract research or consultancies) or supervision can be provided. RIO will seek to have these standard reports built into the Cognos reporting suite and to provide an appropriate RMENet access level for all Directors and Administrators.
