Research strengths
UTS is a young, modern University and as such produces exciting, vibrant research that aims to reach out to the world, to be effective and relevant. We believe in driving change and finding practical solutions to current national and international problems - what we call practical innovation.
Our Strategic Investment Areas (SIAs) reflect the strategic direction of UTS, as well as fitting with both national and global needs and priorities. These areas are leading in their disciplines and are recognised for their research excellence and their contributions to both industry and society.
Underpinning our SIAs are our research strengths which are recognised as national leaders, ranging from traditional areas - such as physical, biological and engineering sciences - to fast moving, contemporary fields including design, nanotechnology and sustainability
Our SIAs and research strengths are made up of a number of institutes and centres that have strong collaborative relationships with industry, government and academics. These teams and the networks they connect with are not only vital to us in terms of our standing as a research university, they also guide the calibre and relevance of our teaching.
