Contemporary Design Practices

The Centre for Contemporary Design Practices (CCDP) operates as a think tank for the future of the design professions. The centre orientates its research around themes of transformation and change in design practices, mapping out a terrain within which the design professions will be reformulated. The signature of CCDP research will be its linkage between university, industry and the professions, capitalizing on the particular opportunities offered through university-based research collaboration. The work of the centre is undertaken through five research nodes. These are constituted across traditional disciplinary and professional boundaries, whilst recognizing the contribution of particular kinds of disciplinary expertise. The nodes are:

- Media / interaction / situation
- Urbanism / politics / organization
- Culture / theory / identity
- Material / technique / fabrication
- Process / relation / participation
